Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

It's been another brilliant week on the site, with lots of new members (a big welcome!) and some great work from our regulars. Story of the Week goes to Charlie77's 'Beauty'. Good horror is as much about the journey to the denoument as the end itself, and there's a lot more to it than just chills. This one has sadness, love and bewilderment, as well as a genuine freeze down the spine: https://www.abctales.com/story/charlie77/beauty Poem of the...

It's been wonderful to see so many new writers on ABC Tales, and so many regulars posting really fantastic stuff. It makes choosing these Picks all the harder, but it's a hugely enjoyable task. Story of the Week is Beekery's 'An Open Letter To Perpetual Sadness'. It's about living with cancer, and it's funny, angry, wise and very, very readable. Do please have a look if you haven't already: https://www.abctales.com/story/beekery/open-letter-...

It's been a brilliant week on ABC. Not only have we had some wonderful work, but in response to the IP writers have been reading out their work either on their own Soundcloud or on the ABC Soundcloud account. Please keep doing it! Our Story of the Week is insertponceyfrenchnamehere's lovely 'Katy, A Ghost Story'. Insert is usually to be found commenting on other people's work and providing invaluable assistance to our new and existing members on...

Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

Amongst the riches on the site this week, two in particular stood out for me from the moment I read them. Story of the Week is Ball Bearing from ice rivers. A funny, reflective tale of a friendship, a fibre optic bear and the dynamics of the office Christmas Party: https://www.abctales.com/story/ice-rivers/ball-bearing Poem of the Week is the stunning Everyone Remembers Everything Eventually, by lavadis. Beautiful, complex, but so easy to just...

Site Maintenance

Many apologies for the downtime on the site today. What was supposed to be a very brief bit of maintenance - literally, minutes - got a bit more complicated and so we have been down for most of the day. Thank you for your patience.

Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

There's been some brilliant writing on the site this week, lots of marvellous pieces which I've read and re-read trying to decide the Picks. In the end, Story of the Week goes to The Lost Children by harveyjoseph. This one has haunted me since I read it. It harks back to a dark past and also offers a plausible vision of an uncertain future: https://www.abctales.com/story/harveyjoseph/lost-children Poem of Week is The Stew by socialeaf...

This week's picks are a bit different from usual in that they are linked. It goes to show how reading another person's work can spark a different but related bit of creativity in ourselves, with wonderful results. The original piece was Jane Hyphen's brilliant story 'I Woke Up (in inverted commas)'. Whether as warning for the future or commentary on the present, it sends shivers down the spine: https://www.abctales.com/story/jane-hyphen/i-woke-...

Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

Really difficult to make choices this week, with lots of splendid stuff on the site. In the end though, Story of the Week had to be alexislebarouder's 'The Misery of Flight' for all sorts of reasons, the main one being that it is simply, as one commenter said, great storytelling: https://www.abctales.com/story/alexislebaroudeur/misery-flight A different kind of misery in our funny and heartfelt Poem of the Week, Scorpio88's 'Misophonia'. Turns...
