The Blue Flowers by Raymond Queneau

Just finished this novel. It is very amusing, lots of word plays, talking horses, slap-stick, yet serious in its own way. Two main characters appear in each other's dreams, or perhaps I should say, they appear to the reader only when the other is dreaming....and the more historical of the characters advances in time 175 years after each switch with the contemporary character, until finally they meet in present time. I know that sounds complicated, but actually, it is a very easy read.

Queneau is perhaps best known for Zazie in the Metro and Exercises in Style.

I strongly recommend this one, bearing in mind that I am a big fan of these relatively obscure French novelists... Queneau, Robbe-Grillet, Celine, etc.
