Allan Massie

Anyone read his Roman Emperor books? My girlfriend bought me 'Caligula', and I read it in a week. Really fluid - very involving. The characters were a little flat at times, but I liked the narrator, Luciius, immensely, and many passages gave me cause to pause and reflect, thoughtfully. Recommended!

Massie's "Tiberius" and "Augustus" are both - what else can I say ? - imperious.

I'm going to read 'Tiberius' next, I think!

In between trying to retrieve my platinum credit card from Mrs Bob no. 3 and overseeing my business interests (Bob Roberts Security Services is particularly active at this time of year) I'm half way through Anthony Everitt's biography "Cicero - A Turbulent Life". A good read, although a bit short on sex action...
