Random Story

I'm just really curious so now I'm going to ask...............

Has anyone clicked on 'Random Story' and got one of their own stories? To me it seems unlikely, it's never happened to me, but, well, I guess we will find out.........

Let me know!

I’m still curious people....a simple ‘I have’ or ‘I haven’t’ would suffice.....if you’re all not too busy.

Thanks

Em.

In a fit of temporary boredom, I admit I did try this very thing a week or so ago... and no, I didn't get one of my own stories!

Just done a wee experiment, where I've clicked it 10 times & got...

1. The Night Before Xmas... by daveboffuk
2. Xx Can't Stop Thinking of You xX... by alp
3. Tomatoes... by stevepinnell
4. Centre Circle... by jjbhughes
5. Lunch on the terrace... by pete_kettle
6. Save Me... by jpotras
7. Larry & Mick Get Caught Up in a Food Fight Between Pigeons... by pepsoid
8. M. Sunday October 6th... by bobblehat2000
9. B - Hower #2... by joel
10. Do you live?... by charleybear

Well waddya know, I got one of mine! (#7)

never, not once in quite a lot of clicking

there are apparently 36219 stories on abctales and a massive 36154 of them are not mine, that gives me less than a one in 500 chance me finding my own with each click.

Or (goes away and does a bit of maths), I would have to hit the random button over 380 times before the chance of getting one of my own stories resolved to 50%

if anyone's interested:
x = log(0.5) / log(num_stories_not_yours / total_stories)

Love It! Temporary boredom just made me smile!

Lucky you pepsoid, my chances are as slim as maddan's - lovin your sums - are you an actuary????

Considering the maddan-demonstrated unlikeliness, then, maybe fate is trying to tell me something about pigeons...

:-/

...and you, span, about "christ"...??

:-/ :-/ :-/

I tried it ten times and got Larry and Mick on the tenth, which might be coincidence, but might not.

Although according to Littlewood's Law of Miracles we should all experience a one in a million event, on average, once a month.

If you are in need of truly non-random numbers, this is a good site: http://www.noentropy.net/

:-( Well I tried it 10 times and got 3 Larry and Micks....is it a conspiracy?

(got 2 from Bobblehat also!)

*whistles innocently with hands in pockets*

an impossible task so stop before the perv police come and arrest you!

pepsoid | October 25, 2005 - 16:13

I'll have you know, Monsieur Camus, that I am, in fact, an undercover officer of the Perv Police (respectful capitalisation, if you don't mind) and if you don't watch yourself, sonny jim, I'll have you arrested and daahhn the nick before you can say, 'Oops, there goes my PVC legwarmers!'

...Darn it, that's my cover blown!!!

:-) * P * :-)

camus | October 25, 2005 - 16:15

Monsieur Camus! Sonny Jim!

*storms off to check self in mirror*

pepsoid | October 25, 2005 - 16:21

When you've worked for as long as I have in this business, madam/miss, everyone is a 'Monsieur' or a 'Sonny Jim'... everyone is the same kind of perv to an officer of the Perv Police...

Hmmm, now you've made me sound like a hermaphrodite with peculiar fetishes Mr B!

Brighton Rock | October 25, 2005 - 16:55

peculiar, or just specialist?

tcook | October 25, 2005 - 17:37

Ah, the wonders of the random story button. I love it - I keep finding little treasures that I'd forgotten all about - as I've read almost all of the stories on here over the years.

There are treasures buried deep in the vaults - just point them up on the 'Discuss Writing' forum - it would be a delight for one and all.

My odds are also small. I've never had one of my own but was just treated to two great ones back to back: Mr. Gummerson followed by Mr. Pack.
