Introduce Yourself

Hello Folks.

As there are a few knew people floating around in ABCtales land, lets do a bit of an introduce ourselves session.

I'm Mark.

I used to edit ABCtales.

I like short stories by women.

I don't like style over substance, unless the style is interesting in itself.

I like to listen to Radio 4.

Cheers,

Mark

hox | October 16, 2006 - 11:51

Hi, I'm Hox.

I used to edit Leisure Footwear Weekly.

I like short women.

I have no style.

I listen to Sports Report on Radio 5 every Saturday.

Enzo v2.0 (not verified) | October 16, 2006 - 12:43

I'm Enzo, my real name's Ben.

I'm an editor on ABCtales, and I am also responsible for the ABCtales online magazine (www.etribes.com/abctales).

I like stories. I don't know too much about poetry.

In writing, I'm a big fan of style. I think I prefer it to substance.

I listen to Capital Gold. I make no apologies for it, either.

flash | October 16, 2006 - 12:45

Hi, i'm Flash

I'm a suoerhero

I wear a tight costume.

I like Mark Brown, he's a nice guy...so is Hox.

I write sometimes, but very badly.

I don't know what style is.

And i don't listen to the radio.

rokkitnite | October 16, 2006 - 13:17

Hi, I'm Rokkitnite.

I'm a contributor on abctales.

I've spent the last four years writing a novel.

I sometimes do poetry too.

I go for style over substance. I think often what people mistake for substance is in fact superb style.

I like cool stuff in stories. My inner child has broken into my skull cavity and is working the controls.

maddan | October 16, 2006 - 13:38

Hi, my name is Dan

I don't really like talking about myself all that much.

yan | October 16, 2006 - 13:46

Hiya...my name's Yan (it's chinese for 'spirit').

I'm 30 years old, but I have the soul of a small child picking flower-heads in a meadow. I've been married for five years now and have a daughter of three years whom I love to bits.

I'm not really a writer but I have learned a great deal from other abc members during the past few years so it's worth sticking around and getting stuck in.

Jack Cade | October 16, 2006 - 15:17

Hi, I'm Jack Cade.

I'm a contributor to ABCTales and a poetry editor (not on ABC).

I've been working on a novel for the past 5 years, and am also writing about six poetry collections simultaneously, to varying degrees of success.

I don't make much of a distinction between style and substance - different writing works for different reasons.

I like mixing genres, mixing 'high' and 'low' arts, and trying to find original, cool and mischievous ways to do things.

styxbroox | October 16, 2006 - 15:33

Hi, my names Stephen and I'm an alcoholic. I find people who don't appreciate style superficial. Although I have none myself. Style not superficiality. Although I have that in abundance. I know everything about art but I don't know what I like. I know nothing of poetry but Poetjude at her best makes me go all trembly. I'm trying to discover my outer adult.

span | October 17, 2006 - 11:59

I'm Hannah.
I am an editor on abctales.
I like writing poetry
I like reading poetry
I like reading and writing poetry with friends.

I cannot discuss prose. Mental block and lack of comprehension.

I don't like the radio. Or Tv.

Style and substance... hmm, me thinks there are no rules on that one.

Hannah

tcook | October 17, 2006 - 16:04

Hi, I'm Tony and I am nominally in charge here.

I like substance. Nothing beats a good story for me - but I do like one that's told with style.

I used to broadcast on the radio and listen to Radios 4 and 5. I am besotted by sport.

I am particularily fond of Charles Dickens and Tom Robbins.

I am not especially happy about the way I am portrayed in The Big Issue article. I am not that egotistical - really.

alp | October 17, 2006 - 19:53

Boo! I’m ‘alp’.

I enjoy writing, music and writing music (not in a notation sense, but a composing ‘by ear’/lyrics sense!).

I don’t watch any soaps regularly anymore, but I wash with soap regularly.

I like playing around with words.

I’d rather have a little of something I was very fond of, than a lot of something I couldn’t really give a rhino’s toes about.

I liked Rokkitnite’s, ‘My inner child has broken into my skull cavity and is working the controls.’

rachelcoates | October 18, 2006 - 12:22

Hi I'm Rachel
I used to hang out here too much.
Then I had a baby and now spend much of my day covered in sick and trying to make interesting shapes out of potatoes.
Also ABC tales makes me laugh very hard, which is a bit of a hazard at the moment.
Am hoping to regain full control and be back in the forum soon.

tcook | October 18, 2006 - 15:19

How good it is to hear from you again. I trust Lily is still divine and all is well in your world, despite the sick. Might have news of my own on that front in the not too distant future!

camus | October 18, 2006 - 15:41

Tony, does that mean you're warning us that you are going to be sick or that we can expect to see even more of you in our daily reads as the first man to give birth?

camus | October 18, 2006 - 15:43

or that you may need to be investing in some Tena ladys in the near future?

Juliet OC | October 18, 2006 - 18:43

camus that was funny. i laughed out loud and my husband gave me odd look.

I've been here for about 10 months, trying to write two novels (get stuck on one, try the other, it goes on forever) and trying to get better at short stories. I like stories with originality, kookiness and a good twist, but equally like emotional landscapes.

Would like to be good enough to be publishable - one day.

I like poetry but normally misinterpret it. can't write it for toffee.

i like a good argument, esp. on here.

Listen to Radio 4 in the morning, Radio 2 in afternoon.

hate soaps, like reality TV.

hox | October 18, 2006 - 20:24

Rachel, what's the news? How is Lily? Come back soon.

Sorry to hear about the sick, but if you cut back to, say, 8 pints a night, you'll be fine.

((Hugs))

tcook | October 19, 2006 - 10:35

Ah, the news must wait another two weeks or so. Watch this space.

Moimo | October 19, 2006 - 13:21

I'm nobody, I've been away for a while.
Well a few weeks.
I've been a member of abc for about a year and love prose and am starting to enjoy poetry.
I don't watch much on the TV bar the news, same with radio, instead I read newspapers, too many newspapers, my home is a certified fire hazard.
Haven't posted for a while as am currently editing work.
Welcome all new members, a pre-emptive congratulations to Tony our wise, egomaniac leader.

donignacio | October 19, 2006 - 16:45

I am Michael.

I am from the greatest country in the world. (Greatest in terms of having all these cool things in it ... like Hollywood and that one thing in South Dakota with all those dead guys' faces in it.)

I am awesome.

I don't come around here much anymore.

barely black francis | October 19, 2006 - 17:45

Hello, I'm Tim.

I like nothing more than to dwell on cheese.

I'm meant to be an editor on ABCtales, but I don't have regular access to the internet and am naturally bone idle.

Women used to worship me. Now they titter at my attempts at assembling wicker products.

pepsoid | October 21, 2006 - 09:08

I am Pepsoid.

Sometimes I annoy people quite a lot, for being too silly or whatever, but there seem to be a few ABCers who don't object to my presence, so I stick around.

I've been "sticking around" on ABCtales since about the middle of last year.

I am most well know for the "Tales of Larry and Mick."

I also write some other stuff.

I don't have any views on what writing should or shouldn't be, except that it should be whatever the writer wants it to be.

I like tea.

I also like porridge, cheese, Marmite and big juicy Greek tomatoes.

I can take or leave egg fried rice.

2Lou | October 21, 2006 - 10:21

Hello, I'm Lou.
I'm one of the current eds on ABC.
I'd edit more often if it wasn't for this useless wicker mouse and keyboard.
