I have returned to the site after 4 very busy years in teaching.
I'm in the midst of putting back on the site some poems I had taken off for various reasons.
I'm re-working and re-titling them and they feel new.
Weirdly, so far I have felt the need to re-title them.
My question is how has your writing style changed, if at all, and why.
Not just writing style, perhaps even your voice?

Looking at some of my earlier stuff I am often surprised by how earnest I was. Lately I've become less serious, almost flippant. Second childhood maybe.

I think I've improved a lot for the break. I haven't written much at all over the last four years and now I have started again, the block lifted and the time back, and I think I've come on a lot!

I agree about the break, I'm hungry again to write.
I'm still too content to splurge a poem out.
There's a lot of tuning in to an impulso almost like a stream of conscious directed from a chosen source, such as an experience, an incident, a person etc.

i think things change a lot over the years ... i used to be very soppy and write a lot about love and sex ... being single for 2 yrs has changed all that ... i now write rants ... i see it as going into my grumpy old woman phase ...
ivoryfishbone | June 20, 2008 - 19:10
you mean you don't do any?
tom_saunders | June 20, 2008 - 23:19
My writing has achieved an almost perfect concision . . .
tom_saunders | June 20, 2008 - 23:24
And the little I do requires editing, apparently.
I take photographs now.

It is great to see you back Mark!
I don't think my style has changed much, just the quality. I have just moved through 'awful' to 'not bad' to 'quite good in parts' as I read and learn more. Long way to go though!

Admits to being in a single grumpy old woman ranter phase too...

jennifer - you don't even in get in the same league as fish for a good rant. Just wait until you two meet on Saturday. Stand back everyone...

Well obviously my quality has been consistently verging on the genius...
As for content, "voice" & all that kind of gubbins...
Those who know me will know that for a while back there I would write almost nothing but Tales of Larry & Mick... and now, as much as my thoughts occasionally return to said fellows, it has been some time (sadly?) since my muse has. I have, of late, blogged - and I think I have pretty much figured out everything I think about everything! If you haven't tried it (blogging, that is), I can highly recommend its cathartic potential.
At this present moment in time, I am due, any day/hour/minute now to become a parent. I feel that perhaps this may have a substantial effect on many aspects of my life, including my writing/creativity... I shall report back when I have more to say on this! ;)

That's the problem these days - I get it all out through poetry, so there's not too much vitriol left in the tank for the rest of the ranting situations!
Far too chilled out...
