The New Messiah?

Is Barack Obama truly the new messiah? Or does anyone share my gloomy feeling that the world is about to be conned again.

As for Hilary Clinton, will she now flush or will we still find her floating in the bowl in a years time?

May God, if he can spare a moment from blessing America, preserve us from McCain.

Or am I just a cynic?

They've both been already bought and paid for FTSE. Or am I just a cynic too?

Sometimes you just have to choose the least bad option. Well I don't 'cos I'm a Brit and they won't give me a vote for the US president.

FTSE100 | August 15, 2008 - 19:10

I fear you're right, chuck. I'm glad you said it and not me...

I'm a Brit too. neilmc. Unfortunately we get dragged into America's wars and all the other jolly little games they dream up. I can't vote, but I can worry.

Maybe it will all get better when China becomes the dominant world power. Anyone making a book on that one?

Apparently he's the antichrist (says the World Tonight) so you're way off track FTSE.

Obama mostly prattles on in the same content-free quasi religious inspirational platitudes that all US politicians and Tony Blair seem to speak. But then occasionally he says something so downright brilliant that I go all gooey over him all the way from the other side of the Atlantic. Because of him I like America's options way better than ours, but I suspect they'll still manage to screw it up and vote for the old white guy. They have that look about them.

FTSE100 | August 15, 2008 - 22:45

My bet is that Obama gets in, maddan. Like Blair he'll look good for a while until people begin to see through him. Is there really any substance to him? I wish I could believe it, but my gut feeling is - no.

All I see is a man desperate to get elected and will say and do and be anything he thinks is going to advance this cause. Being the first 'black' (half-black, Harvard-educated, honorary-white) president will give him a certain kudos in tomorrow's history books. As Dan says there may be the odd brilliant thing thrown in with the spiel and coolio fist-punch greetings but I don't think any of it is novel or makes him a person with a good and workable coherent strategy for directing the country.

The parallel FTSE100s makes with Blair seems very apt and I would add my wager to that particular bet.

The new Messiah? Do me a favour he's a politician! Maybe he's a new kind of politician, that's still to be seen, but don't let's kid ourselves he'll do what the power brokers want him to do. He'll say all the right things, be seen with all the right people, be identified as a man of the people.....and do what the power brokers want him to do. Cos that's what all politicians do if they want to get elected. Cynical? No just realistic. No matter what the nationality they all do the same thing. Say one thing and do another. The only thing that surprises me is that people always seem to expect politicians to do what they say.....History says otherwise. New Messiah?....just be grateful that Hillary Clinton lost.

All politicians seeking high off are hostage to their backers to some extent. However, once they get where they want and have paid their dues, they're more likely to follow their idealistic instincts...if they have any left by then.
