new nanowrimo thread

the other one appears to be locked.

How's it going on this insane internet quest. After 3 years of nailing it, I am struggling this year, 2000 words in 4 days is not great, should be on about 7000 by now to be on schedule

how's everyone else doing?

Enzo (not verified) | November 4, 2008 - 23:10

I was on about 5k but it was crap - really crap - so I've started again.

NaNoSuicide!

martin_t | November 4, 2008 - 23:22

that is a nanocrime!! word wastage !!!

Enzo (not verified) | November 4, 2008 - 23:38

Hahaha - brill. It's a fair cop, guv. I'll never do it again I swear, just don't tell me dad.

2Lou | November 4, 2008 - 23:55

Doing a two-hander... sharing the failure... not officially Nano so not sure whether it counts, but hey, it's fab. Like that kids' game where you write a sentence... fold it over... pass it back - Well, okay, not quite like that. Anyway, it's on hold tonight because I've started chewing my nails over the election and that makes typing difficult.

martin_t | November 5, 2008 - 02:00

fast approaching 3000, staying up to watch the presidential election has upped the word count, still way behind schedule though

maddan | November 5, 2008 - 09:29

Just about keeping pace. It's a lot harder this year than previous ones.

lisah | November 5, 2008 - 21:54

Managing to keep up this year, but I have a feeling my story idea is not enough for a whole book. I've got some short story ideas on the same theme, so may finish with those if it comes to it.

Anyone posting on ABC this year? I may start soon - but I've been jumping around the story so I don't have enough in order to post yet.

Lisa

Enzo (not verified) | November 6, 2008 - 00:18

Well since I started again yesterday I've done two day's worth of writing (3,300 words or so).

That doesn't help me make up the 3 days I've lost, but is a massive improvement on the pitiful 1,000 or so a day I was averaging in the first three days.

I really like the story I'm writing now, which is the main thing.

I doubt I'll post it on ABC but I am blogging it here if you want a peek:

martin_t | November 6, 2008 - 12:24

passed 4000, which is nice, should be at around 9000 to be on schedule, which isn't

lisah | November 6, 2008 - 14:51

I might post a bit, see how it's received.

tcook | November 6, 2008 - 15:36

Please do!

martin_t | November 6, 2008 - 15:48

managed a sneaky 700 or so at work!! have emailed it home, going out tonight so slipping more behind though

ivoryfishbone | November 6, 2008 - 19:04

forgive me nanoers for i have sinned

i have only done 1,440 words so far

i'm rubbish

martin_t | November 9, 2008 - 23:50

it seems a lot tougher this year, i've not broken through 10000 yet

I is made of fail.

fishy - you're forgiven luv!!

jennifer | November 10, 2008 - 08:47

I have been writing feverishly, literally, very ill!

14,499 so far - it seems to be writing itself, but is getting harder.

Still, a vast number of words for a poet!

Have just managed to log on to the website again since registering, have now done my profile, briefly, and joined Bristol & Bath Region - anybody else in these parts doing it?

I also have not got any buddies as yet, so if you want to link up, writing as 'jenniferpickup' - hope to hear from you, wherever you are!

Jen x

martin_t | November 11, 2008 - 00:01

I'm from Bath, so might check out that region

I don't live there any more though

I am still drenched in nanowrimo fail, just past 9,000, at mu current word per day rate I'll have problems getting past 25000

Enzo (not verified) | November 11, 2008 - 00:29

I'm doing okay - just passed 14k.

I'm from London but I'll look you up next time i'm on the site, Jen. I'm Enzo there, too.

Everyone I've spoken to says the same thing - People are finding it much harder this year. Dunno why. Something in the water...

Ben

maddan | November 11, 2008 - 09:10

I'm finding it very hard to care this year. The writing's fine, it comes easy enough when I do it and the quality is up to the usual standard. I just don't give much of a hoot whether I do it or not. Don't know why.

ivoryfishbone | November 11, 2008 - 10:22

i agree

can't be arsed at all

last year there was a definite buzz ... it must be the credit crunch ...

lisah | November 11, 2008 - 10:28

Must admit, I took a break from my nano novel yesterday, and wrote a short story instead. Chalked the words up on my total. It's still speed writing, isn't it?

jennifer | November 11, 2008 - 15:16

Doesn't count - has to be all the same story. Was reading a discussion forum on the site yesterday. Can you insert is as a dream sequence?

Enzo (not verified) | November 11, 2008 - 16:50

Jen's right, but check it out, loophole:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/forum/304

lisah | November 11, 2008 - 21:01

Jennifer, it's too different for a dream sequence, so thank goodness Enzo found that thread. Especially as I think I just ended my book at about 25k. Oops. I must admit, I spent today writing another short story. It's not finished yet, hopefully I'll finish it tomorrow. Although, the short stories are themed.

martin_t | November 11, 2008 - 23:52

feel the same as many, approaching 10000 now, way behind schedule, and having done it three times in the last three years, don't care as much as before. I'm away this weekend, there's a beer festival to go to in hackney tomorrow -

it's not looking good cap'n

jennifer | November 12, 2008 - 07:12

Perhaps your characters could go to the beer festival with you? That would make an interesting chapter, especially if they're elves!

Good loopholing!

lisah | November 12, 2008 - 14:31

Looks like I'm writing a novella, a short story and a borderline novella. But they are all linked.

martin_t | November 18, 2008 - 15:33

just stumbled over the 14000 word mark, way way behind

martin_t | November 20, 2008 - 20:45

had a bit of a spurt, past 20000 now , still way behind....

Enzo (not verified) | November 20, 2008 - 21:51

I've stopped, it's not happening. My baby is 15 months and in need of attention, my wife is pregnant again, we went on holiday for four days... the excuses go on but the long and short is it's over for this year.

maddan | November 21, 2008 - 12:07

I'm still writing, it's still fun, but I don't stand a hope of making it. In the end there was too much I wasn't willing to sacrifice.

Congrats on the second sprog Enzo.

martin_t | November 24, 2008 - 12:22

i might be able to make it, managed about 11000 words over friday/sat/sun, blasting me up to 33000

however i now have man flu

martin_t | November 26, 2008 - 13:44

man flu all over! but working this evening, might hit 40,000 later, gonna be a tight finish

lisah | November 27, 2008 - 13:30

Congratulations, Enzo! Don't blame you not being able to finish. I have a lesser excuse. I ran out of words, finished the stories, and I'm done at 38k.

Good luck, Martin.

Lisa

martin_t | November 28, 2008 - 00:44

cheers lisa

passed 40,000 just now, getting close, gonna be tough getting over the finish line

my toughest nanowrimo yet

still slugging away though

jennifer | November 29, 2008 - 10:16

I did it! The poet has written 54,000 words! And she's still going....

this is why there has been a lack of poetry recently - no words left over..!

martin_t | November 30, 2008 - 00:18

well done Jennifer!!!, I know how tough it is to finish, I'm at 46000 now, I should finish, glad the last day is a sunday, had it been a weekday I don't think i'd stand a chance

Enzo (not verified) | November 30, 2008 - 19:31

Congrats Jennifer.

Good luck Martin!

martin_t | November 30, 2008 - 19:53

Cheers, finished with 5 hours to spare

proved to myself that a bad start doesn't mean not finishing, at the halfway point I was barely over 12000 words, the second half of the month (from nov 17) saw me plunder nearly 38000!!!

lisah | November 30, 2008 - 22:50

Congrats to both of you! I alas did not finish, but I like what I did write.

Well done - tired?

Lisa

martin_t | December 1, 2008 - 11:46

not too tired, had a few late nights over the month, pleased with some of it, the story started as a stalker and turned into a family drama, needs drastic editing to make something of it, but once I got going after the slow start, really enjoyed the process...

tcook | December 2, 2008 - 18:04

Congrats all round - now let us see the best bits on here.

lisah | December 4, 2008 - 13:15

You already had mine. :)
