Obama has been president for hours and still there's no improvement in the weather, still nothing worth watching on TV, and we're still waiting for the extra cherry quota for ABC. Time for a change?

On the contrary, since Obama became President Elect I have been inexplicably tired (as if due to staying up very late) but strangely euphoric. As opposed to yesterday when he wasn't president and I was mostly just anxious.
I think this is an improvement.

You're right, I actually have my google news alerts set with tags such as 'house prices' 'economy' 'recession' 'unemployment' 'starvation' 'apocalypse'etc and I think it's having a profound effect on me. I am becoming increasingly prone to stockpiling grain and finding Robert Peston attractive

I do think we are in for a long stretch of misery on this one - but I am a lot happier now that Obama is (almost) at the helm. McCain didn't inspire confidence and the pitbull in lipstick was a big worry.
I sincerely hope that he is as good a man as he would seem and that he can bring a semblance of sense to a mad and greedy world.

After the London Mayoral election I immediately noticed the 'Boris Bounce' - more sunshine and fewer overweight and smelly people sitting next to me on London buses.
I don't think Obama can do much good since he inherits the US economy at a stage of the deflation of a speculative bubble caused by typical speculative mania. "In earlier manias, the bubble was generally confined primarily to one debt sector.
Not this time around! Beyond the $14.8 trillion in residential and commercial mortgages in America, there are another $20.4 trillion in consumer and corporate debts. This meant that mortgages represent only 42% of the private-sector debt problem in the country. Result: Americans are not only under tremendous pressure to sell their homes due to burdensome mortgages, they are also squeezed by huge credit card balances and by layoffs from employers equally addicted to debt.
By virtually every measure, the debts piled up prior to the Great American Housing Nightmare are far bigger and worse than any debt pile-up ever witnessed in history."
Obama gained 4 times the money from Wall Street than McCain did, so we will see more bailouts and intervention which will delay the crash, and extend the housepricecrash and depression making it more severe in the long run.
Obama may increase welfare but this really will be farting against the wind. I can't wait until this particular scene in the great movie of world history is played in the UK over the next ten years - being even more indebted and with an even bigger bubble, we will get it in High Definition. Pass the popcorn!

"finding Robert Peston attractive.."
Dear God Jude, it's worse than I imagined. It's a slippery slope, you know. Evan Davis next.

Obama got most of his financing from small donors over the internet. He took no Political Action Committee (PAC) money or benefited from those 517 outfits (I think I got that number right). He does not owe Wall Street diddly squat.
Anyway, I'm excited. I've been watching this election cycle intensely for months. I'm glad its over, and I'm especially glad McCain and that frozen goober didn't make it. And I'm also glad that Obama seems to have little in common with the typical American liberal establishment, which is characterized by a lot of posturing and posing and drama queening. Apparently, he was known as "No Drama Obama" among his campaign staff.
