The Passion Flower Hotel

I'm not really reading it, very much doubt if it's still in print, but I'm indebted to it for the phrase nostalgie de la boue which I used for the first time today. My three shillings and sixpence finally paid off.

Come to think of it, the phrase was probably in the sad and sorry sequel, Passion Flowers in Italy. I still resent spending that three shillings and sixpence.

Wasn't there a rather bad film version starring Nastassja Kinski?

Goodness, you naughty fellows! I think that was a truly dog-eared Pan paperback.Definitely hidden in drawers in my parents married quarter.

My favourite at the time was a book of laid back surgical procedures - the Calmer Suture I think it was called.

Mine had a pink cover:it belonged to my Uncle Esmonde, whom most debutantes found quite safe in taxis. Come to think of it, that might have been ´The Camper Suture´.

Of course, my aunt Alice, Dr.Alice Comfort, had a million seller too. A seminal feminist tract condemning the fashion industry entitled ´The Joy of Sacks´.

Ah, the Passion Flower Hotel. There was a copy that had lasted for many generations that did the rounds at school. It was incredibly battered but was the most lascivious thing I'd ever read at the age of 14. Mmmm....
