Recommendations, please

I'm in the mood for something light and undemanding. That is to say, a ripping yarn. Can anybody recommend anything, please?

Callisto by Torsten Krol was quite amusing I thought. A sort of Forest Gump character who gets involved with terrorists.

Thanks chuck, I'll give it a go.

Hi FTSE, only recommendation I'd make is to put your feet up, many thank for the message and tracking facility on previous posts and comments. all the best L

Gentlemen of the Road by Michael Chabon.

Thanks for the appreciation, Lena. One does one's best, don'tcha know. ;) I'll try your suggestion too, Ewan.

Carter Beats the Devil - Glen David Gold
or
Book of Illusions - Paul Auster

That ripping yarn is hell when darning...

CBD is one of my favourite books. Auster leaves me cold I'm afraid, but that's a reflection of my low tastes, I think.

Don't think that your tastes can be too low if you like CBD! New one by Gold is meant to be a bit disappointing though...

Riotous Assembly by Tom Sharpe or anything by Wodehouse my favourites for a laugh and a bit of light farce ;)

I see we share a taste in humour, 3LS. Can't think of anything by the two authors you mention that I haven't already read, although I haven't read anything by either for twenty years, so maybe it's time to recycle them!

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. I'll have to rent a few extra pairs of eyes!

Try Terry Pratchett, if you haven't already ;)

no idea if he's well known, but the above are brilliant, all the better if you get old copies with lovely covers. definitely ripping in every way.
