N - spaces in between

from the ABC set poetry: on a faded page

"You know how I don't like needles"
and I nodded
although I didn't know
don't know
you
anymore.

Once
we used to drink
sweetened coffee
brimming with milk

Now
I take it black
and you're on a diet again

Your eight month old baby
grabs the empty ashtray
and I want to light a cigarette
but I don't

We're all grown up now
that's what we tell ourselves

Ignoring the reality

We've grown apart.
