No More Heroes

from the ABC set Unordered Tales

The chance to kindle legends

Breathing life to histories page

Heroes, myths, and highway bandits

Exhuming, dare of long forgotten age

Unlocking parallels of conscious

Leaching mystic revelation

Drench tomorrow in uncertainty

Inciting nameless connotation

Heed, the pounding hooves and foam of stallions

As they echo through the street

The flaying capes and glinting spurs of highwaymen

The rich beseeching, mercy at their feet

Observe the predators of aristocracy

Seducing ladies by the tally

Dim candle softly scarring ebony

Through dank and treacherous ally

Swaggering brigands plunder

Toasting, return in taverns heady drape

God-fearing souls, seek demonic witches

From righteous rule there's no escape

Alchemists and wizards tutor magic

Enchanting all who spectacle their whim

Saints, the humble and unholy

Ponder mordant sin

Tingling tales of spectres

And possessive souls that burn

Rotting fruit and festering milk

Ciphering concern

An age away from plastic, fax

And thrilling soccer score

Bereft of mystery and darring-do

No more heroes anymore
