It was a quiet balmy
Sunday morning in Warsaw.
An old man was walking his small dog.
The dog squatted
in the middle of the sidewalk
and made a pile.
We witnesses gave
the man a dirty look
and kept on walking.
He looked embarrassed
and tried to flip
the deposit off the
sidewalk with his foot.
It was not a firm deposit.
Thick, I mean. Juicy too.
The man got it all
over the toe of his shoe.
Now he was hopping on one foot,
holding a restless yapping
little dog on a leash,
shaking his other foot
to fling the residue
off his shoe.
I don't know what finally happened,
but the rest of us
smiled and went
quietly on our way.
