Mandragora

'Mandragora or Mandrake : a root of human appearance with aphrodisiac and narcotic properties. It is said to shriek when uprooted and to be lethal to whoever pulls it out. It is supposed to be a creature having life engendered under the earth of the seed of some dead person put to death for murder.'
(Levinces Lemnius Herball for the bible, translated by Thomas Newton 1587)

'Can you get off the line young man. I have a crime to report - murder, murder most foul.' (Miss Marple)

'Murder is like a jigsaw puzzle Dermot. You haven't solved it until all the pieces fit.' (Miss Marple)
