Synopsis

May 2006: Ashley and Flynn have been married for twelve years, when they receive the devastating news that Ashley has lost her fight with a rare cancer and has three months left to live. They struggle to reach acceptance, in a summer heat wave reminiscent of 1976, which amplifies their guilt and fear to claustrophobic levels. As the heat builds, so does the disintegration of their relationship as both of them avoid the inevitable, by attempting to shape the future.

Yet it is the past that Flynn escapes to as he rekindles an affair with Kasia, the Marie Curie nurse, who he has not seen for eleven years. Fate and desperation draw them together, their passion, like the heat, unrelenting and dangerous. Flynn’s betrayal is fanned by Ashley’s ‘permission,’ intended for Esther, Flynn’s childhood best friend.

They each become more desperate, continuing on ever widening trajectories that tear them apart...
