Death had been here, do you remember?
How we had scrambled the wall
spotting the shore below.
Encountering a tribute laid in stone
recalling the cut- short life
of a teenager unknown
Still, this was a happy place,
provoked abandonment,
Unravelled a history, timelessness .
I could sense the laughter,
movement and song - long expired beach fires,
whoever loved this place lingers,
parties still go on.
You were poised on rock,
capturing the perfect photograph,
while I was chasing driftwood,
collecting pebbles, turning
to laugh at the camera
trained at my head. Yours
are the only pictures of me
I like. The trick, you said
is this:I take the moment,
and the camera does the rest.
