The trees they stood.
The creaking of their
timber limbs echoing for miles.
Their uprooted feet
walking on forgotten legs.
The ground quaked beneath
as each and every bit
gained strength and momentum.
The earth lurched,
swaying back and forth under
the impressive weight.
The flowers…those seemingly
innocent faces,
climbed out from the dirt
with petal fists.
The faces of the daisies were the most
menacing.
The tulips sidled up back,
colorful from the neck up;
A street gang with impressive pigment.
The grass moved…oh, it moved!
Screaming down streets like racecars,
chasing each other’s tails like dogs;
Traffic in the streets.
Growing taller and more abundant yet.
Shrubs and bushes frolicked daintily
Holding hands as they danced
on pavement and concrete sidewalks.
Occasionally stopping to jump rope,
to hopscotch.
The windowsill cactus was a lingering terrorist.
Frightening all of those around him,
Threatening with words and lunges.
It'd often be seen sharpening his needles.
Curious enough, the vegetables
were the most calm and understanding
of all of their past (un)deserved plight.
All they wanted was to enjoy a normal life.
I suspect my vegetable garden,
a friendly group,
has joined a gym together somewhere.

Kadhai and her bacon risked upsetting the veggies, now you put the fear of god up the meat eaters.
Seriously though, I really enjoyed reading this,

This is really good! Great characterisation of the various flora(?). I particular liked "petal fists" and the street gang with impressive pigment. Just that whole verse really.

Thank god the veggies are friendly, I dread to think what a cross carrot might be capable of!
Much enjoyed,

I missed this one completely, Anna...and I am so pleased I happened on it just now. A more than deserved cherry on a highly original and expertly penned poem.
You have conjured up such wonderful pictures in my mind, I don't think I shall ever see my garden in quite the same way again;-)
