My Warrior Princess

I have not forgotten your smile because
to me it never faded into a straight line
across your angelic face.

Visiting hours did not apply to me because
I wouldn't allow it.

I wiped your tears to one side,
I made you the only immortal princess in
Disneyland.
I held your trembling hands and painted
your nails.

I have not forgotten the pain that my heart
felt as you passed on, with the small sense
of relief that you were being set free.

I miss you, I love you,I hope you never forget
that.

I answered the questions that no mother should,
I have not forgotten your courage, my warrior
princess, time that you fought for.

You saying “I don't feel any pain ,Mummy”
still echo preciously and make me cry.
A machine breathed for you, that's the one
thing that I couldn't do, God knows I tried.

you've written this beautifully and it certainly tightened my throat, I don't know the story you are refering to, but if its real and recent, then to be honest it's a little close to the bone for me,

Hi Shoe, Thankyou. I understand, I should have been more clear that the news story only inspired my writing. This poem is about a little girl who I saw when I was in hospital.

As I said, I was close to tears reading this, you are fearless about these emotive issues,(that is a compliment by the way), you write so tenderly and capture the emotion so well Beeme, :-}
