Blue Snap

from the ABC set In the Absence of Change

Blue snap, spineless crack
time and snow with Uncle Jack.
Silent fear's a useless knack
for those with foes upon their back.

Silver choke, born of hope
hang young Jo if you’ve got the rope.
She won’t breathe, might faint, won’t cope
drowning in her fickle trope.

Yellowed past once first, now last;
the hex that Jack thrice cruelly cast.
Hunger for the lord’s repast
of guilt from slaves so tasked.

Black flash, she’ll tell you trash
tell no truth, no thought for cash.
Secrets kept prevent the crash
no more need to be so brash.

Red to come, of days not done
hiding under recall’s gun.
She won’t fight so she must run,
Jack knew this when he had his fun.

This is an interesting piece. I like the rhythm but am confused to its meaning. Perhaps I'm a bit Friday-liquid-lunch soporific. My thought is the US' exit?

I was actually going for something on a smaller scale - of someone never facing up to past abuses and damages done. Jack being the person who hurt Jo in her increasingly distant past.
