I bought a bumper selection
Of Christmas cards today
One hundred assorted cards
A real bargain I would say
But not a shepherd or angel
Nor a stable, a star or a king
Not a holy word of praise
No Jesus, no God not a thing
I told my wife of my disgust
She said not to make a fuss
But they had managed to take
Christ out of Christmas

Witty as ever Biggus - though the change in rhyme pattern in the last verse seems a bit odd.

That's why Xmas I suppose, though I think it's meant to represent the cross as Christmas was to make Easter possible (not just the cross of Easter of course!) Rh

Thanks Rhiannon.
I think that Xmas dates back to the time of Cromwell when Christmas festivities were banned by the puritans.

Thanks Leander the rhyme pattern is the same in verse three though I admit fuss/Christmas is a little week.

I think it's the disgust and fuss rhyme that's throwing it for me. Because that rhyme comes in before the pattern in the other verses it tricks the mind somewhat.

Yes sorry about that
