Overend – A Year In Crime

Chapter Thirty-two

Friday May 31st 2002

It was a busy Friday in the squad with almost everyone in the office.
This didn’t happen very often and there was a cacophony of sound with everyone contributing to the general chatter.
Bill Overend stepped out of his office and walked to the center of the office.
“Can I have every one’s attention please?” He shouted.
Suddenly the chattering stopped and they all ambled in Overends direction, they could tell by his demeanor that it was not good news.
Even Boris Katarski, never backward in coming forwards, knew this was not the time to speak.
He decided to employ the axiom “A closed mouth gathers no foot”.
Boris was right.
“I won’t keep you long.” Bill said gravely.
“I’m afraid I have the sad duty to announce that Chris Blenkin lost his fight with cancer in the early hours of this morning.”
All those assembled were lost for words and Bill could say no more and he turned and walked slowly into his office closing the door behind him.
