"We are making your position redundant" was the gist of meeting.
There were a few well-placed key words and phrases such as "Revenue down turn", "strategic restructuring", "Regrettable", "unforeseen" blah blah blah.
I know it wasn't personal it was necessary to make positions redundant and mine, along with three others, was identified as one that could go.
In truth it didn't come as a complete surprise in fact I thought it would have happened earlier than it did.
The flow of work into my "in" tray had slowed to the point where it was barely a trickle and time had begun to hang heavy and more and more I had to make myself look busy which is never an easy task.
However although I was not surprised it was still a shock when the hammer fell.
It was all very amicable and I have no complaint about the way it was done and the financial package was more than acceptable so no hard feelings.
I did feel a little sadness at the end because after twenty-two years in the job I felt I was beginning to get the hang of it.
