As Medusa Slumbered

from the ABC set Anonymous Words

As Medusa slumbered cold and near,
her snakes gave him a frightful fear.
Backward he stepped, her reflection clear,
in his shield, like a mirror.

Quietly and scared, Perseus crept,
being careful and cautious as he stepped.
Closer and closer he came, as still she slept.

He lifted his sword over her concrete bed,
his feet were as lead,
his cheeks a deep red.
‘til down came his weapon,
he chopped off her head.

A couple years ago, I was forced to come up with a poem or short story for my Mythology class.
I really like the way it turned out.
