mirrors

from the ABC set random

I’m scared of the face in the mirror
What starts to stare back at me
With a ghost like complexion
Burning bright emerald eyes
Are all that remains etched in to my mind.

The more I look the more the focus fades
Shadows take over, form shapes I haven’t made
In this I lose myself
In this all I am is lost
In this I have nothing
But the remnants of what’s left

Transfixed this glare won’t go away
I avoid my gaze, reflection, stare
Hide away within the day
As this beast looms over my nights
In every way

I agree wholeheartedly with shoe, a great piece. I particularly like the way we are given no hint as to the nature of the beast, I find myself imagining what it might be.
