Ten Things I'd Have Done Differently

I wish I hadn’t
- been ruled by fear and anger
- taken comfort from drink and drugs
- denied myself the company of a Higher Power
- been drawn to gambling
- abused the love of those who cared for me
- thought I was Jesus Christ
- stolen the hearts of lovers
- hated myself
- put my faith in a football team
- embittered the mother of my children
- been so lost for so long,

but there’s so much to look forward to.

Packaged short and unsweet, dripping with honesty and regret, and filled with hope. More power to you, Richard.

"but there’s so much to look forward to." - reminds me of the ending of 'Donnie Darko', a great cult film! Really like this Richard, well done on the cherries!

Great stuff Blighters.

"...put my faith in a football team..."

Loved this. Very honest and thought provoking. Reminded me of a famous quote I once heard:

"Only a fool has no regrets."

Writing the truth about yourself is can be a very difficult task indeed. Well done.

It would have taken me 500 plus words to say what you did in 78. (Yes, I counted. I'm on vacation. It was certainly more interesting than doing a jigsaw puzzle.) Great piece, Richard.

This is brilliant, Richard... '- thought I was Jesus Christ'... I loved that line, and teamed with the last they together brought humour and hope to this poem, and if you've got them in your life, you'll do just fine ;)

Hope all is well and congrats on the cherries, and for a great read :)

I like this too. I like honesty and truth and that's what this is to me. And I like that it has a happy ending, since I struggle to find those in my work and in my life as well. You seem to have weathered a lot of shite and come through it better than you had once been. I think I'd like to hear you speak at a meeting.

"embittered the mother of my children" yet another surprise of power in your words Blighters, I know this is one from the past but I felt I had to flag it - really powerfull.
