A shelf appeared
as if by magic
three quarters of the way up the wall;
cornerwise
no one could guess
what it was for
or what it would hold
and when we asked
we were told;
“ask no questions
you’ll be told no lies”
It came as a huge surprise.
We weren’t expecting
anything so grand
It was brown and
made of Bakerlight;
the screen was only nine inches
but we could have been at the pictures.
A Bush television set!!
Bought especially to view the King's funeral.
Oh! The delight
at everything that flickered across the screen.
All done with style
all spoken in clear precise English.
No F word,
no reality shows,
definitely no sex or violence.
