Stolen

from the ABC set A Tribute to...

Stolen kisses often delight a heart,
stolen nights of love can prick a conscience
yet make you hide a secret smile of joy;
life can be a toy of stolen moments

…but, what happens when a life is stolen?
Taken illicitly and demolished
or kidnapped, perhaps sold to the highest
bidder to be re-shaped into something

other? A pebble thrown into a pond
causes ripples too numerous to count;
each undulation a pained constriction
to a heart rent by fear and frustration.

How to catch the thief of God‘s precious gift?
How to retrieve that which is part of you?
How to face the future never to know
where the stolen life breathes, exists?

Would your heartlight dim and cool into black
nothingness? Would the blood fire with anger?
Eventually extinguished in raw
recognition of intolerable loss?

Yet never ever acceptance. Oh keep
a candle lit in each vacant chamber
of the heart; otherwise how dark and cold
you must be inside without the sunshine
that used to greet you each day with a smile.

My pick of many of the beautiful lines in this poem, Val.

An inspiration to me and to many I feel.

Thank you for posting it.

Still haunts me to think of this dear little girl. Lord only know what it must do to her parents. Thanks for commenting Tina . Val x
