My body
cold to the shudder,
it trembles through my inner self.
My eyes seem intent upon
an everyday scene, yet
in reality they have turned inward
aware only of the internal petrifaction.
My ears stay alert, listening, hoping
to catch the soft lub dub of the final
heartbeat, needing to witness
the metamorphic moment
when the flesh becomes
statuesque.
