Street Of Bones

from the ABC set A Tribute to...

I imagine the cries, the screams,
the whispered prayers,
the lost dreams
of poor souls, whose bones lie
huddled, forever forlorn
beneath that street in Passchendaele.

'whose bones lie
huddled'

- what an original image! Never thought of bones huddling before!

Thanks for commenting Magic.
These bones weren't just placed nicely, they stayed where they fell, thousands upon thousands of them, some say the street is a mile long. Valx

Reading your tribute to those who died in this quagmire, this tragic battle - countless lives lost to gain so little, made me go cold, Val.

Stark words and a poem well written, but far better, of course, if words such as these had no cause ever to be uttered.

Very well done.

Nice one Val. War/battles never guarantee anything but the dead (bones). I'm sure they huddle together asking; 'Why are we here?'.

Good work!
