I remembered something tonight.
Something she told me
after you passed away.
It didn’t signify then,
yet tonight
it seems important somehow.
She said-
as you breathed out
your last seconds of life
a tear trickled down your hollow cheek.
It occurs to me now
I wish I knew, who,
that tear had been shed for.
The children?
All the wasted years?
Could it have been for me?
Yourself?
If only I had been there at the end
to hold your hand.
if only I had been stronger,
if only.
If…

I love the structure of this poem; I can almost see the tear trickle down. This is a very touching piece dear Val and how personal it must be. Great work.

Yes it was difficult to get it down and for it to say what I felt without going OTT which sometimes happens no matter how you try. I hope it hasn't happened here. thanks Tina Love Val x
