Solace- this is where it bides
even in the winter gloom
there is a quiet dignity here.
Nothing troubles my mind,
my heart beats softly
within my breast;
cares dissipate like breath
on the frosty morning air.
I walk catlike, tail high
lightly treading between rows
of scarlet dogwood;
awareness stirs, signs of new growth,
the continuation of life
an everlasting promise-
A shaft of sunlight
sparkles through pigeon grey skies,
drawing my momentarily rose tinted gaze
to a clump of precocious shoots;
Snowdrops- their pearl heads still hidden within,
waiting in the wings
for their turn to perform to a winter weary world.
I am happy and in harmony
with nature,
for the moment
shadows in my life retreat;
I am at peace In the garden
still lightly wrapped in dreaming
where, here and there she kicks
back the blanket of slumber
to reveal the tender buds of life.

'where, here and there she kicks
