Winter Comes

from the ABC set Nature's Glory

A million snowflakes
flutter from a milky sky
each one of them intricate
yet individual;
they layer the ground
without melting
flurrying as a playful
breeze blows by.

Slowly but surely the hills
beyond glister white,
blanket after blanket cover
the earth with silence.
Even the leaf bare limbs
of the sycamore acquires
a winter coat
and the world suddenly seems alight.

On virgin snow
covering the empty flower bed
a tiny Robin flies down;
he hops about
leaving spidery prints
beneath the shrubbery, where
blending with stark brown twigs,
just his feathery breast glows Red.

Rooftops in the distance
wear hats of purest white
and the earth snuggles
deeper into winter.
The creatures grow still;
some to sleep,
others to bravely face
the long winter's night.

Until nature's clock
once more strikes Spring
and shakes off
the last vestige of winter's sloth,
allowing another birth;
a blossoming of life
another performance
of natures magicking.

they say no two snowfales are the same -isn't that amazing and magicking? 'The earth snuggles..' i like that warm image, and the red breast of the robin is always a promising sign of the life to be renewed in the Spring at the end of your poem - gently descriptive which makes winter enchanting - a bit of Valtastic magic! :))

To be read aloud in front of a roaring fire, while your audience sips mulled wine.

I feel almost Christmassy!
