A Cat up Close
Through binoculars I look lap kitten
butter furred ,gentle paws
all tucked under,anti chill
a knee warmer
the only risk a noisy purr ,a loving gleam
or a mangled mouse
of a poem dropped at your feet
but turn the glasses round
and there's a big cat
panthera leo
all tawny threat
hindquarters ready
so you mention
girlfriends,dates,
take phonecalls
crack the whip
fend me off with a chair
