Rainy Finchcocks
Bank holiday charm, Finchcocks
greets with gorgeous Georgian facade
and every view is labelled glorious
swelling greens and fielded sheep
Music is played by an old enthusiast
limping urgently between piano seats
expert in their stories and their music
puppeteering notes and jokes
Then we nip out for agile dogs
paintings ,chutneys,plants,and fudge
we pet an owl,admire the gardens
have bacon butties, tea ,and cake
I chatted to an Airdales Mama
"she's soft as butter but cloth eared "
smiled at a tall man dressed by Barbour
from hat to wellies ,all country gent
And the other music known as Folk
ranged widely over map and time
but give me pipes and Jacobites
and Derwentwaters sad Farewell
