lining steps in deeping snow
there are fairy lights in trees
and warmth from doorway glows
Inside is merry company
perfect food and napping
each guest is like the chosen gifts
a masterpiece of wrapping
Champagne here, a sherry there
a port ,a glass of wine
but even sleepy full of drink
the guests all still look fine
The host and hostess worn to shreds
linger by the phone
they long to call a taxi
and enjoy the fire alone
