Tweed

from the ABC set Dear Familiar

Tweed

A gentleman's tweed jacket I think in Lovat
for meeting with the Headmistress , a progress report
and for watching the concert or the play
supporting the match against St Marys
chatting over coffee to India's parents
a stroll around the grounds before lunch

Then when our girl had raced back for prep
and the fire smoked somnolent wood
and afternoon blanketed the day
in a deepening chill

We would climb the hotel's Tudor stairs
turn on the bedside light
fling ourselves
full length on the fourposter
and go silent
weaving textures
planning hands

Its painted on my palms now
your warm skin
after a drag of tweed
a slide of urgent lining
a fumble of solemn buttons
a smile of
cool bedcover against my thighs

I very much enjoyed this. The rhythm of the words was very nicely done.
