I'm In Love with a Girl Called Ellipsis...

from the ABC set Poetry

I can't seem to stop using ellipses,
everywhere I go it's all ...
A friend says
it makes my correspondence
appear somewhat fragmented,
constantly deferred,
as if everything is consistently
to be continued,
a trait she insists is endearing,
but which nevertheless remains,
to me, something of a worry.

'Perhaps', I mused,
'I have come to depend on them
as a kind of inter-personal crutch,
to lean against when I'm frightened
of where the river of
words will take me...'

'Or then, maybe my interest
is entirely aesthetic,
the perfect syzygy
of concentric circles
in slow single file,
chasing each other in waves
across an empty page...'

On reflection, I must confess,
I really am rather undecided.

Oh well, perhaps if I take my mind off it,
wait for things to pan out
in the proper fullness of time,
the answer to my addiction
will make itself known, somwhere
in the second part
of this love story,
to be continued...

that is so good to read...and the end is perfect gentle wry! I wrote something similar about the winking season, but it didn't turn out as sweet - the conversational tone of this is spot on - loved it -and now i worry that i dash too much? Enjoyed :)
