Inside Elephant

from the ABC set Inside Elephant

I have a long, long trunk,
not a long, long neck,
and great big African ears.
They want my tusks for an ivory tower,
but they’ve been missing for years.

Inside this body
that is grey and stout,
is a slim giraffe
that is trying to get out.

I want a long, long neck
that is yellow and tan
and a face that is soft and small.
They want my feet for a waste paper bin,
but that’s not me at all.

Inside this head
that bends to the ground
is a mind that can stretch
and look around.

Your children’s poems are delightful! The rhyme is very clever!
Really sweet!

Could be out of place but, at the Zoo: Daddy daddy what is that? It’s an elephant. But that!? Oh, that is his trunk. No no at the back daddy. It’s his tail. No! That! Oh! Why do you want to know? Mommy said it’s nothing. My boy she’s spoilt.

Good luck! Nolan

(If you want I’ll remove the joke.)
