7 Minutes (IP) The Sands Of Time Up Dated Now

Up dated now as now
as our Editor T.cook
Tony
kindly suggested

My dearest belated pop
was a Navy man
Sailor hat
and bell bottom trousers to match

A tot of rum given in those days
when on leave
encouraged him to go along the pub

Such a skilled Dad to all of eight
A Musician pianists violinists

accordion to
I would have given
my right arm
to do

The poor dog would open
it's mouth and howl to

A Painter and Decorator
Sign writer esq;
I loved to watch
him do the squirls

Rosette's on the ceiling
I would say
"That is quaint
why not try a Saint"

Now one tries
a potato masher
pretty
and a lot quicker

If he did a job for someone
Always a dust sheet be put down
But for us of eight
at home

Only Stand on a chair
and just smack!
and whack it on

He would line us up
down the garden we'd go
helping dig his potatoes

And pull the Curly Kale
Cabbages in rows
and orange carrots
that glowed

Oh!
His beautiful Sweet Peas
That tapered majestically
towards the blue skies
attracted the golden honey bees

Even the washing when he helped!
put on the line
No pegs on

Who would clean the rabbit hutch
Don't forget the
Washing up

Shell the peas take out the bad
If a lunch he prepared
the cabbage not clean

He would have said
"Swollow it down
it all goes the same way"

A bit of a bloody fool
Blow the smoke
into circles of the room

Even the statues
with their open mouths
We all amazed
and laughed

No wonder after a glass
of his home made Dandelion wine
We all seemed to lost our minds

and he'd play the
spoons on his knees

He could make a model
of his
Air craft carrier
he was on
from the war

and masts and a flag
as he sat
and smoked his fags

A lovely one
Of St Pauls
with windows

Made of gold
and silver
toffee wrappers

A wooden toy of
a Monkey on a stick
Squeeze it!

it would jump
over
the top bar

One day he came unstuck!
made a fish tank
Out of a metal
milk crate

Filled all in cement
tipped all water in
Oh! no

all water flooded out all over
the floor
Not quite
So clever after all

Could cut four boy's
hair put a pudding basin round
on their heads

Mend shoes
like youv'e
never seen

Test the brakes
on all our 2nd hand bikes
say
"Not you
it's the other

silly sods
On the road"

A farting,
whoopsie cushion
He would sit on
blame us,
as he moved
or the poor dog

Tie a piece of cotton
to a letter box
Open the door

He would hide behind the wall
Being psychic
that came from his mum

Then Sundays the golden rule
All of to Sunday school
sometimes not ready

what !
was the point going
Kneel and praise god
after all been rowing

He just know
two sons coming on leave
and bring friend's

Make a great cook
Cheese on toast
With touch Oxo
broken up in

They would all arrive
but put them up on the floor
and give to all

Those were happy days then
but most of all
What!
ever you have ever
or skills to

Do try and teach
others to

Such a chaotic family
You know
No money and clothes

We all jossled to-gether
In all life's woes

Mum left after 30 odd years
Ran off someone then
after rows and tears

Polio hit the family
three of us in all
I was under weight
Had to go to
Camp school

did it bring them
more to-gether
Not on your nelly!

He turned to
Chasers!
Whiskey and Barley Wine

Watch out if a full moon
His tempers
seemed to change his moods

THE SANDS OF TIME
Were running out
Like an egg timer
Sifting through!
I was always fascinated
by watching it to

Dearest pop given 6 months
to live
"Hope I haven't got the big C"
he would say
as his watch
slid up the arm

As eventually worked in a
Nursing home
and had seen it all

I would go over by taxi
If late and nurse call
As I had more time than all

Mine was a shift worker
ugh!

Put the old hoover in the car
Ram the key in the lock
and forget all the hate

In laws
Only had our little girl one week

Please!
"Wash my face
and comb my hair"
pop would ask

Never wanted
a nurse to poke him about

I Put him out on the commode
hardly seen one in my life!

Then gave him a kiss
and cuddle
as I put him into bed

As one son always asleep
youngest out six

Tear ducts falling
that were left
I thought he would speak!

Told another morphine injection
Nurse came later

The needle so big!
I'd say
silly! me
"Never mind it will
Help you to sleep"

But bit brutal
Nurse came later
"By the looks of him
won't need"

What a re-mark to make
I felt like saying
"You silly cat"

Some family arrived
we all around the bed
No hospice would he go

A friend given him
A Rosary
I took it out the draw
and sat and prayed
Please!

Don't suffer pop
too long

The dad I loved
Slipping away

Always said
"When you go
A pint of beer
and a fag"
best way

all though his fingers stained
with nicotone in those days

I would crush his pills
for him as he had a goyter

His psychic mind was right
one birthday did all my gift's
up in baby paper

I lived there then
Why"
Did he do it

I never said
But turned me out
Baby on the way
not married

So glad I could be with him
on that last day
One of the family
counted the breaths

"That's it he's gone!
Come out and close the door
So all along the pub we went

I'd seen a friend when young
had died laying so
Peaceful!

In his home
with his skin
after coughing so much
all new and bright again

So then a sister and I
went to the chapel of rest!
Dear pop laying there in
White satin
Arms folded across his chest

Oh1 My goodness!
What had they done!
Puffed!
His cheeks out

It' wasn't nice
after being so thin in life

I thought like!
I saw someones husband
once

Pop!
Be laying there
Looking all serene

One last kiss
and both ran out quick!

So I would say to all
just remember the good
and not bad times
leave them just as they are!

Fill them with love
and hold their hand
Give them a kiss

Like somewhere
The Sands Of Time
Are filtering through
When you watch an egg timer.
Sifting to.

I hope the angels
have opened the
pearly gates
And he is in heaven
never made it
for a pension

There are good and bad spirits to
that's another story
I know!

This is so touching, Julie! You've created a beautiful and tender poem that even though it is sad it is also full of warmth :) Well done!

Hi! thankyou lovely comment.(True)
Well very hard to put as six still,
alive he said I could take teddy home,
and a picture,all went though.That's families
I was also Mum's carer too! May like to read! "The Leopard Skin Coat".Meant to be funny. And maybe "The Mangle Mess Of Some OF life's Experinces!Sometimes authors put about death,so ABCtales brought it out!.but we don't always in life have any support when it happens.
Sometimes, things in life go very wrong, and we are
wanted or maybe not looked after ourselves,by future husabnds wifes can't understand situations, and In-laws.true isn't it.
People talk to me now.But can't always stop to listen.I was next to oldest,of six.In the end they took over.Home was his castle and things, hearse went fast or cars, see who got back first, nothing was there! worth squabble over.
Been out in the sun and Ray at last!cool wind?
Grand National home and watched no luck.
HOPE YOUR OK.

Jesus, says "One day your be with me in paradise".How
beautiful.Can't wait.Sounds perfect.Kind people can get sat upon.(word).
Not such a caring world now. Some are for themselves
only.Take over at the end.

No luck for us either in the National!

This has the makings of a very good poem, Julie. But I think you need to work at it. It jumps all over the place at the moment - maybe you should try and arrange it a little better. It's like the notes for a poem at the moment - and I think it could be exceptional. Try and order it a little more and maybe work a metre into it. Keep going with it, though, it could be very well worth it!

Nolan | April 12, 2010 - 22:00

Well Julie what I'm actually getting at, if say you are 90 and you have lung cancer would it make sense really to say you died of it? Rather think of it as more a kind of contributing factor?

Well apologies I always put my foot in.
Cheers &&

(Hi Tony- erratic- that's his style.)

Nolan | April 22, 2010 - 20:00

This now is a different poem altogether. I liked the other one more, was easier to read &&

and if you get time, please read and give thoughts.
I have asked "Silver-Spunsand too" and maybe Kheldar
David,or anyone.Re-touched up title,plus "Sands Of Time.
Have a good week-end.
Someones said not so good,to understand.Hard to do.

Eperiences" I did,less and more.

Your Pop must have been quite old. He's probably better off now. You buried the old lady last year as I recall? My condolences &&

Hi! thankyou lost return comment.
So try again.I always put my foot in it,is an expression.Don't worry. What I answered said, you are absolutely correct from experiences, I know things
and stress can make illnesses worse come or too late
to go,Pop joke as thin man, hope haven't got that awful cancer, but I was last left.By him all did bit.
He was psychic knowledge right, said cancer starts of
can clear up,come back, but it's the things happen in life, stress drink, the genes trigger all off.He would
say like tree cut down roots grow.So keep smiling and happy get out,not to much sun,let the other endophines work.Summer close the door, explore and bargain hunt like me now I have "Bright Eyes".
HAVE A GOOD WEEK-END.WE CAN ONLY HELP SO FAR,sometimes, can't please and do for all.
good hear from you and advice.

Thankyou yes,it was a mess!
I added a bit more, too much don't you think.I will get Ray to do copy of this,so I can compare and your lovely comments as Editor,of Abctales.explaining help to all.
Usually I can bet one now,100-1 winner maybe.
Sorry!you had no luck to.When I win the pools, and you
Abctales then maybe I will get you to publish my kind of poems, and a story maybe.Getting old, everyday is precious.
and Kheldar David, as you were away kindly suggested and helped me,re-do,as I asked all comments and ideas do one too "Crocodile Tears" reads much better and it was too long, and stanzas in wrong formation said put into 2 parts,as by Mistake I put as a story and not poem altered it, from t.v.programme.s do!The computer is in same room as t.v. and Ray as well
I am thrilled at 1st cherry! mine takes no interest
and makes him sit up,see I have now five.Wow!this is too long too, like a story. I miss Borders,we all met up,coffee and Authors met,and buy book now and then.
If in a hurry,as Ray's computer.
Cut a lot out.Now "Kheldar David" kindly as,you away,helped ideas and re-setting of it,thrilled
he could, readings going sky high now.
A great friend gone into hosp;only day,of some being
to-gether.I in past put poem on here,before. "Colours Of The Rainbows".Known many years and got me in all the groups etc;

Julie says
Paper to-days states O.A.P
re:subject "then called it "The Sands Of Time"
How 80 year old keeps fit,I think..
Coincidence.Like mine? how strange.

Thankyou for the comment.
Sorry you can't read 2nd
version of it now so well.
Our Editor had read mentioned
it was jumbled, and worth the while
to work on it it would be.
So I have ie; must have a beginning,
middle and an ending,it has now.
As typed so much,then MistakenMagic
liked it and sad said beautiful.
Fine! but I got carried away so I
added to it in the wrong tense re;Pop's
skills,and more of our lives.
The ending should been climax of his life
and my care before died. And bit different Title
But just feel free and put your ideas down,I will
look at and comments.Been hectic time,to do it all.
Things swept under the carpet, expression those times.
What ever, life handled you, just got on with it,each step of the way.Everyone had to.
Cut it down.
julie

Cavalcaderl | June 5, 2010 - 07:45

julie says now found
