GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (IP) Updated now

Once I had a tree of knowledge
on my mantleshelf great
but it never answered questions
or answered mine back

Sometimes our world is in a muddle
just like my mind
do we know how many times
a child steps in a puddle

The dog hides shoes
or how many times a cat mew's

Why does a green frog croak so much
with bulgy eyes
croak so much
and toads cold to touch

Bowl of water by a fire
will sap gasses

Or a seashell put to the ear
one can hear
the echoes of the blue
rushing sea

The golden pendulum clock
going back and forth
on a balance of time
on the hours it will chime

Dad made a wooden weather house
male and female individually
came out on a pivot
to forecast rain or fine

How long do hiccups last
or spaceships go off
in a sonic blast

Stars that blink in the sky
on a murky night
or a baby birth born on time

Why do balloons go pop
when fully blown
no one is near it
I suppose that is

it's limit

Why when peas are podded
they go pop!

Why does a cat lay on his brain
if it is stormy or going to rain

Or sausages going black
spit in the pan
how many baked beans
in a can

We can learn from a book
on any kind of matter
like a baby takes it's first steps
we can all climb the ladder

Do puzzles and quizzes
and life's experiences
much better to get to-gether
and enjoy a natter

But AbcTales
to share each poet's poems
and good news and views

Maybe I should buy an abacus
go back to Abc

Then no matter what age
all learn something
new each day.

Hello julie,

I love this poem, because it's answering the question
why? and that is what knowledge is all about.

I do love the lines:-

Why does a cat lay on its brain
if it is stormy or going to rain

I think this was a great little IP.

Jenny.

Jenny Hi.
That was quick for a commemnt.
Like yours must read more. Resting back to-day age.
Thanks been so ropey in mind, other things, making
knitted toys, charity little boy d.
Found it in a book. This is just a one off,
last night, mind was clearer poetic bit was
better, I am asking mine help rhyme it, watching t.v.
The knowledge tree was a gift, made of wire gold tone. Think this needs a lot of improvement, don't you. Brain is rusty? I spell something correct, then looks wrong. Mum always said that about cat's we were
then brought up with, but fight like children.Daughter has three cats. Thanks. Not sure good enough for an (IP) not worried.
I was never clever swot, at school. Just learning now.

hello Julie - lovely to see you posting again! I like this one - it's so full of energy. In the third stanza, there's a typo - it should be "mews"

Corrected is that ok.Thanks
he said different ways. No have
to, what's that word focus again
what doing, instead of doing other things.
Or things in life gone wrong. This not been thought out well yet. Been buisy knitting, and daughter back from Egypt, not knowing message all twisted, does me in. Know what I mean.

Thankyou so much, lovely comment.
Had to alter it, or add on suppose
comes with age knowledge and much later
reading books and mags' young one in particular
weekly thing "The Unexplained" interesting days
before coloured tv. etc; but like me some when young
at school could function some subjects some can't.
So really all comes from learning a bit of knowledge
mostly daily things now, not saying I am right. Jot it on AbcTales, as most have good knowledge of something and interesting. Plus T.v Listening to other's now. But I wouldn't want to be a know all.
Hopeless in family arguments not worth hassling over whose right, funny really. Sometimes I just put something on here, maybe be ridiculous, just comes from the mind now? Must read more. Think first?
Have a good week-end try get ideas from other's.
I couldn't think correct name for Wooden model weatherhouse but re-done. Can you looked it up too.
You know schools reports like try harder, doesn't
concentrate, big family clever dad. Knowledge?

Very cold and windy here, too, Julie!

'I scribble couple things down, add as I go along. I know what I want to put, but can't get a story into right perspective'

- I know exactly what you mean, here! I've got about a hundred things stored half-finished to my laptop, most of them have been there for months, some even longer, and I just live in hope that one day I'll be able to put them all together so that they make some sort of sense - I suppose that's the beauty of writing, you never know where (or when) it's going to take you!

And do not worry, you are not the only person who spends a lot of her time thinking about Mr.Pitt - minus the grizzly beard he sports so often these days, I'm thinking more Thelma-and-Louise-y - ahhhh....oh dear, I'm daydreaming again... ;oD

Enjoy reading yours, too, just wish I had more time to read more work on here, but do my best :)

Hope the weather picks up where you are soon - it's great for washing-days but no good for BBQ's!

Take care,

Rachel xx

May have said hosts came handed out golly! all certificates, and oscars plastic. Four years all closed we did all kinds things. Weird see oneself and all on huge screen. Fun. The staff do typing as we had scribbles, all kind
life some I'd read their's see there worked liked that. Then saw add paper AbcTales comp and just plonked them on, but Editor Tony AbcTales helped a lot, I was like a blue grass monkey, didn't know
how work all headings on here. why all cherries for.
Stanza and Forum didn't know those word's. or comments, so not doing bad now. But we told at centre not to stay over anything to long, cos if scribble it out, and change it all not same. And mind get's jumbled for all. Some couldn't do that. BBQ'S the grass if left alight, shame no not a spoil sport Little chidlren as young as five chopping heads of roses and one with there mums in park, aged about four trailing branch at least 4ft long, not judging but mum's with them, may have two chidlren. Times are a changing Dylan's.I am truly surprised get any comments
Brad Pitt great without beard, takes years of him. Who is Thelma and Louise is it children.
You daydream girl,we popped in super market both to-gether makes a change, one guy was separating plastic bags, but as I went by looked if in a trance at desk.so whoops! I waved my hand re-marked he was ok.Just in oblivion, like switching off.
Well sun is out so trying day centre singing round again. Plus trying new way of poem, comp will need all cooments and ideas good and bad, when done.
But I just love the title "Penandpaperdreams".
tara for now.Think I'll sign myself as Agony Aunt
more than a poet.Any mistakes leave as up and out now.Days of a smack are out? Mine has made cream sponge taken if for his bowls club, well he has re-tired and get's under my fet? Him and daughter if arrives never read my poems. And snooker Captain so
do my own thing now. Challenge he got prizes to then he laughs, grammar school education, now can beat him.University challenge, daughter clever swot? both

Really gee thanks lovely comment.
It is really bit too long, but once
got it going found could think! an
add me. But strange paper mainly about
The Tree Of Life and Bradd Pitt, also doing
a film called that. Repeats titles seem to follow me.
Didn't think worth to try as (IP). Thrilled to see reads amount, comments mainly about life! I scribble couple things down, add as I go along. I know what I want to put, but can't get a story into right perspective. Like my "Mangle mess of some of life's experiences." as Editor Tony mentioned good, needs working on, I totally agree.
Enjoy yours must read more? Very cold windy here.
thankyou. seems quite few having trouble computer repeating comments, mine was four times. ugh!

RachelPatricia | June 2, 2011 - 13:02

Hi, Julie, sorry for the delay - your comments have somehow got a bit muddled up on here and I got a bit confused, not to worry! I think it's been happening to a few people and probably has with myself, too :)

Thelma and Louise is a film which Brad Pitt starred in - his first big movie, if I remember correctly, back in the day when he had floppy blonde hair and didn't have a million kids hanging off his ankles! So good to hear about your own big-screen debut - you sure sound like you live one hell of an interesting life, Julie!

Hope you are well, the sun is playing cat-and-mouse with the clouds at the minute in my little part of the world, just hoping it clears by weekend and we get this heatwave the weather reporters keep promising us :)

Take care and if you can, go watch Thelma and Louise - it's a real chick-flick and a bit of a classic, think you'd enjoy it - not least because Mr.Pitt gets more than a little naked in it! ;oD
