My Beautiful Ring true

Hi julie,

there are so many events in a persons life and you
have managed to convey so much, in such a small
space of time.

There is a lot of saddness about your pop, especially
that your mum ran away, then the haunting. It must
have been a traumatic time for you and your family.

I read this with great interest and hope that you

Julie - I agree with Jenny's comment. Your poem was a wonderous ride, filled with longing, sadness, hope and humour! Some very tender scenes, especially with your father, and I enjoyed the deep mystery of the ring when confronted by the spooky vicar! I got a little lost in one or two of the stanzas but no matter...there is so much warmth and good nature in this poem that I felt compelled to read it again...and the ending...Jeremy Irons! A laugh-out-loud surprise! But weaved so effortlessly into the narrative it proved a most natural place to conclude. Def. one for a live reading...All the very best, Mark.

I scribbled bit, re wrote, had to think? What order
it all happened. Absolutely true! I was going put title The Poison Ring. Warning! As in christian holy life, fortune telling, Ouiji board is can bring people and young, have there places blessed too.

more things happen in life! happens. Now daughter's grown up and m. After 14 years, not able to do anything then. It is amazing, and still is although not been church 6 months spritual side, had all done!

Just seen Play "Alarm and Excursions" Theatre Royal terific funny humorous last week 'Robert Daws' from 'The Royal' I watch sometimes has finished, was in signed for three of us back stage,and casts, mine wouldn't come, decided after, no seat had sit behind good,funny. But can't write like you, so great compliment o.A.P UGH! your's are great! Been long time day centres. Muisic groups and all, and elderly group, sing dance music all over 5o's did. Finished.

but mine was crystal round with rhinestones on? Flap opened.

Hi Julie, this is really spooky, and you say it's true? How did you feel about it all, the prophesy etc? I know you are a believer, that comes across in what you write quite plainly. You obviously think deeply about things.

The poem surprised me with its twist. The first few stanzas lulled me into a gentle world of make-do-and-mend and family values and then - POW! WARNING, WATCH OUT! What a change in tempo and mood. Some very intruiging memories and recollections, and all so weird, yet wonderful. Thank you for sharing, and as to the writing - very good and I particularly liked: shone like the stars and as round
as the moon truly poetic, and beautifully put. And you mention in your memories about that picture with the dogs playing snooker and instantly I remembered seeing it in a pub somewhere, more than one pub as it happens. Funny how these things jog your memory and take you back.

Anyway, really enjoyed sharing this with you. I believe what you've related is worth a proper full-length story to do it justice. Well done.

We're off to Devon now to see the grandchildren etc. Will read your GREEN EYES, either when we get back tonight, or tomorrow when I have more time.

You have some amazing stories, Julie. Never worry about telling too much because I enjoy it all and it's nice to share your incredible experiences. I'm afraid my life has been on the whole rather uneventful (apart from the normal family losses eveyone of a certain age goes through) and that's why most of the things I write about are made up. I live in a fantasy world when I write, but I try to fuse fact with fiction. I like to play my adventures in my head then try to make others see the pictures. I think that is how different we are (you and I), because you write from the heart and life's experience, and I have to make it up - most of it anyway. I know what you mean about not seeming safe sitting next to someone on a bus. It's irrational to feel like that, but we can't help it. As we get older we feel more vulnerable, not so sure of ourselves and mistrusting of people we don't know. I think the media is largely responsible for that, in the way that they portray the news, it is disproportionate. I hope we don't ever get to the stage where we are scared to set foot outside the door.

Very interesting to hear all your little anecdotes, Julie. I'll write again soon.

Oh, and I meant to say Happy Belated Birthday! Well done. When you said you are in your 73rd year, do you mean that you are 72 now, or 73?

I've read your poem over a few times. It is quite an interesting story and there are some touching verses for example

"His spirit wanted stay with me
or was it his barley wine and whiskey!
darling pop we didn't always get on
so R.I.P on the otherside

to all of you have a mum or dad
or someone you love
tell them not to suffer long

Who ever it may be
kiss them
and warmth of your love

I like the way that you use the ring to simultaneously tell two different stories;
both the story of a spooky, mysterious ring and the story of your relationship with your father.

I also thought that there were some scenes in the poem that were quite dramatic and atmospheric and make quite a good ghost story, for example

I told the vicar had then I had
about the happenings
also a sound like balls being kicked
and rolled against the wall

He said "l will have to get get someone
to bless the place"
Or exorcisim he didn't come
so vicar turned up on his own

Dressed in black head to toe
so frightening
came in which room feels presence
no not front room here

So we took him through
to the bedroom and he got me and mine
to say "The Lords prayer" and took holy communion
Ah! he said feels more at peace now

Vicar said "You must get rid of the video
and the ring how could I do that
when I loved it and my dad gave it to me
so my daughter had asked for it

Without further a do gave it to her
as moved then said "her rabbits found pulled
through the cage
and cutlery draw rattled at night

Clever could play piano,violin,accordion, none of us picked up. Loved us all. But what a life, mum ran off
someone after 3o years, stuck by all children.
When had baby used wear it the ring proud,
pushing the pram. Got photo two years later
died. I was told that is what happens, if hold
someones hand, warmth of the one, helps them slip
over! at time it was be his side,in morning, sat on
his bed, talked. He chatted. Went home came in morning put out on commode,and back bed had C.
Others came in evening but in coma already from morning. I asked him not suffer long, in prayer year.
Well wanted best for me, never quite worked out.
Till end. But shocked over ring, sensitive person!
Also his mum my nan, when I was a child had a crystal
ball and tea leaves. Bad in christian world. So pop
was psychic many times, after mum walked out. Used ring to see read into naughty, all said came true!

to write! Iloved that ring,and photo
have with our baby,when young I was wearing
the beautiful ring! it was scary when,vicar should have come,didn't another name for that kind of thing some have. So the one I had then came himself! Kindly. At then end of pop's life,I was beside his bed with love,god's healer mentioned with love given,
by holding hand slip over peacefully! Out of six of us,I had more time to go over,Ivy is a clinging plant! like pop! some in trouble things, or whatever it happens,even drink!

A close friend once approached our Minister in confidence and told of how his wife sometimes gets possessed by the devil with great force and fury without even the least warning, and that he is desperate for help. At which the Reverend put his hand on the friend's shoulder and gravely answered: Brother. Be grateful it's not every day.

Julie a close friend came by the other day and all trembling in hush told of the most feared that is approaching. I said he is a brave man. He explained he was even more scared of the fact that he was so scared. I asked why? His great fear was waiting for the bride and an irrational fear of catastrophic embarrassment for all. She's known to make one wait. Long. I said hell yes.

So he asked me in whispers on what I knew of diapers and I replied yes as far as I know they do use them in hospitals and homes and such (do you know of this Julie?) I said yes well no one has to know and if you lose 5kg's and trousers one size larger I'm sure nobody would notice.

Then said but surely you can still get out? He said no he won't miss it for the world it was the first wedding he was invited to in 20 years.
