Emmy

from the ABC set On Muses

Your ankles and your wrists are the same width
I want to cuff them both
Truss you up like a turkey
Pin you to my bed like an exotic butterfly
Fading in a dusty under-funded museum
In some sea-side town
With a name nobody can pronounce.

I want you to look at me with those oriental heavy lids.
I wonder if they are heavy to pull up in the morning
I wonder if they’ll pull themselves down at the end – an easy dignity.
No blank stares into the sun as you grow cold,
Oh no.

But then you’ll put yourself to sleep before time drags you unwittingly.
By the hair.
No screeching despair just a quiet recognition that you have HAD ENOUGH.
I picture myself finding you (no note no mess)
Kissing your lineless forehead.
The gap between your vest and jeans unnerves me.

You are beautiful.
