I saw her today at the reception
Fibulator in her hand
I asked her what she was doing
She said she still cared about the band
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
Sustained erectile dysfunction.
And I went down to the proctologist’s office
To get my prostate checked
She said something a bit disturbing
About a hard-boiled egg.
Keeping fit is important
The key to eternal youth
Exercise regularly
Avoid substance abuse.
She asked how the kids were doing
(Grand kids I presume she meant.)
OK, I said, feel like a quicky?
Best not, she said, it’s Lent.
I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get my prescription filled
I was standing in line with Mr. Pfizer
And man, did he look ill
Blocked artery it looked like
His face was cherry red
I sung my song to Mr. Pfizer
He just smiled and said...
Sing it now...
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
A good book works instead.

I tip my hat to your strong constitution
and smile at the humour
In your poems' execution;
pick up my tea pot and say
I much prefer Earl Grey,
But blast, it's stewed again :-) :-)

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you need
You can't always get a sticking plaster
Sometimes you gotta Let It Bleed.
Have you seen Scorsese's Shine A light, Chuck.
Give me his The Last Waltz, made 30 years earlier, every time...
but his clashes with Jagger are quite amusing.
The most impressive part is the audience :O)

Thanks Lena.
Saw the Scorcese film mykle. Pretty good I thought but I'm sure that stuff about the song list was phony.

Yeah, I suppose it was pretty good, I certainly enjoyed it even though i watched it on a laptop with poor sound. Certainly some good interplay between Ronnie and Keef.
If it was phoney then Martin and Mick both played their parts well.
I bought Simon and Garfunkel's latest DVD at the same time and I thought that was far better.
Simons' guitar playing was brilliant and the backing band of session musicians were superb. The Tom and Jerry jokes lead into some great humour and Simon did some masterly hand wringing - all topped off with the Everley Brothers.

Not seen the S & G yet. You're right about Last Waltz...I don't think it's ever been equaled. I did enjoy Heart of Gold though....Neil Young in Nashville doing Prairie Wind songs mostly with some older stuff...Damage Done, Harvest Moon...wonderful.

Liked this parody (?)/ lampoon - I'm sure someone'll let me know which it is.
Incidentally, my own comments on the Scorsese film are here:

which garnered the sum total of no comments. Perhaps it was the posting date.

I have found that some of the most exciting music on DVD appears at these Clapton Cross Roads guitar festivals.
A lot of blues but plenty of other genres included - and all for a good cause!
What's your opinion of Beyonce as Etta James in Cadillac Records, Chuck?
I thought she was better as Etta than she is as herself :O)
chuck | April 26, 2009 - 13:24
It's a paropoon Ewan. Also known as a lampody. An extinct form once used by itinerant Wallachian minstrels.
I have to say I thought Shine A Light was a competent piece of film-making. It works as a historical document and Scorcese caught the excitement. He used 20 cameras so I wasn't expecting Pennebaker. I was most impressed with 'Shattered'....not sure why.
Not seen Beyonce/Etta yet mykle....I'll let you know.

A bit of energy from Jagger that seemed genuine, perhaps because the lyrics include the words 'look at me'?
Bless 'em. I saw them 3 times; Knebworth and in West and East Berlin on the Steel Wheels tour, I leave you to guess which was the best.
