Elephantine Proportions

His avarice is now of elephantine
Proportions, as is he, a hippo
Of a beast with Jurassic teeth
That sucks up his milkshake
Universe through a gigantic straw,
He is tall too; no one’s ever
Looked him in the eye -
Can only meet his pork loin
Ankles with fear drooping at the jaw,
Hoping he doesn’t glance down
And pluck you up, ham fisted,
Like King Kong, roaring
To the sky in hungry anger
Whilst shaking you as a morsel
At the moon - according to NASA
And certain underground seismic
Agencies he roams nocturnally,
Scooping and swiping at the earth,
Clutching up mountains of men
And matter made up mostly
Of things that do not matter,
There is a flurry of worry
About gravitational pull
Based on calculations of his weight
That keeps scientists busy,
The government mumbles
Population figures from guarded
Doorways and has come over
All utilitarian; of cull and then be culled
When your usefulness has expired,
Extremists and organised vegetarians
Claim that with time his greed
For flesh and shiny manmade things
Will abate, perhaps the odd sacrifice
Of one man and his chattels can be made
At a time, served up upon a plate.

Very good. Thought the first 10 lines or so were the best; the animal references, etc really conjured a mood of nature, possibly savagery, in my mind. Who is this "monster" I wonder. Left open enough for many interpretations, which I like.

I really like this a lot. Coincidentally, I've been working on a story called 'Massive' for the last few weeks. This eerily echos some of the detail in my story. Great minds and all...
