Oh Lord, Won't You Buy Me A Mercedes Benz

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz

for I am digging up fiction on allotments
like carrots and leeks, watch me serving them up
as if they were sideshow freaks, and charging
entrance fees to see me jump through hoops

So Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz

for I am feeding up fat chickens and stealing
eggs from their coops, I am rustling up organic
and passing it off as orgasmic and hoping
in panic that no one reads the small print of me.

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz

for I need something fast to keep up with my friends
who don’t come for free, it’s the fly in the ointment
that I can’t do without, that I’m the eroticised,
unsanitised, fantasy role play version of me

So Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz

for I have worked on this act for a long time
you see, have conned with striptease and never
been truly bare, have produced this circus – trapeze,
smokescreen reality and never been truly there.

nice piece. humorous and really entertaining.
a great spoof of the country song, if not a spoof, than a great comedy work nonetheless.
well done.

for a guy named Doeslittle you sure do alot. hahaha...no, not funny.

Thanks Mike...Is the song a bit distracting though? As I may change it if it is...

Guy...I felt all confused when I read this about my own gender and then realised I was just quite old and English.

I don't think it needs changing at all. I like the reference to the old country song and the way you use it as a reference point for the gardening analogies in the first two stanzas. Or at least, this is how I see it.

The 'small print of me' line is great.

I think the use of the song title works really well as a means to establish the dream of a different existence, as counterpoint to the main theme, whilst also defining rhythm and structure. That said I did get a bit lost with the various analogies. Suspect that's me! Margot

Yes, I think you're right Margot - it does chop and change a bit with the analogies which I didn't do deliberately, just how it came out. I will have to look it again at some point as there's a couple of things I'd like to improve in it.

TFC - Thanks for comments.
