I wonder why,
as hard as I try,
nothing useful
seem to stick.
Yet I recall,
with no effort at all,
an actor’s name
from some vacuous pic.
To remember
all I know
only highlights
all I forgot.
I’ve read so much,
I’ve lost touch
then find there’s much
that I know not.

Thanks Tina. Yes, the older I get, the more I realise how little I know.

"I remember much forgetfulness" - Billy Collins. Great poem, Mark. I'm nineteen and nothing much sticks - trying to memorise lit crit quotes for my exams this week!

Hey, good luck Magic. I do hope some of it sticks long enough for your exams :) Thanks for taking the time to comment - much appreciated.

you are definitely not on your own

It's good in a way though, because you get to read and watch stuff again that you loved long ago. I'm looking forward to revisiting my Inspector Morse boxset in the summer (that sounds pretty boring I know, but the thought of it fills me with excitement):-)

Thanks Poncey - I am pleased there are others who know exactly what I mean.

Fatboy, I agree with you to an extent. I love that I can rewatch favourite movies etc and enjoy almost as much as the first time (I can't, for the life of me, remember movie dialogue). I wish I could remember my favourite poem but all that memory is taken up by bad 80s song lyrics, dammit all!
