6d Dreadfuls (Edit)

from the ABC set

Robots marched through rough cut pages:
Archie and Brassneck to name but two.
Lion, Victor, Hotspur, Hornet;
sport and war for the price of a cornet.

Redskin, Nip, Nazi, Hun
even-handed with everyone.
Braddock, Wilson and, yes, Alf Tupper
who sprinted home on a full fish supper.

And where were the women in these pages?
Did they dare some derring do?
Just Mother, girlfriend, wife or strumpet
an orphan girl or someone's crumpet.

Soldiers, spacemen, cowboys tall
- the wonder is so very small,
that things were so much simpler then,
for everything revolved round men.

I remember these comics well! This almost works - but I think the blatant comment 'jingoistic racist tripe' etc. is just too obvious. More show and less tell and it might be a very good poem!

Yeah, I guess you're right. It's gone now.

'More show and less tell and it might be a very good poem!'

But I did want to intrude and comment though. Ah well.
