Half-Forgotten Things.

from the ABC set Poems For Cyril

Big Chief Bilbo getting very angry,
shouting "Bumma-lakka-wee".
Chaste kisses and sticky love hearts
behind the lightning tree.
Balaclavas knitted for a bigger head,
gloves on grubby string.
A pocket-ful of penny chews
and fluff on everything.
Zabadak on the radio,
our secret playground code,
football with a tennis ball
and battles when it snowed.
The Spider in the Lion,
Tupper on the Track:
too grown-up for the Beezer,
though we read it front to back.
A potato for the spud-gun,
a ball bearing for the catty:
club-colours on a snake-belt
and a Zoom to keep us happy.

what is a catty?

Silver Spun Sand | November 22, 2009 - 14:04

I'm guesssing it's short for 'catapult'.

We always called it a 'catty', I have no idea how localised that usage was.
