What is Poetry?

from the ABC set Poems For Cyril

Not a word
more than necessary.
That is quintessential advice.
Not a chance
that you´ll ever take it,
you find your prolixity "nice".
Not a long
and deep polemic:
perfect counsel´s not given twice.

Hello again Trevor, you really should stop SHOUTING your name.
You're not related to ULTI are you?

TREVOR MAYTUM | January 16, 2010 - 11:47

Mangone, I'm afraid I am. The old ones are the best, aren't they?

If you have a thesaurus, perhaps you could hazard a guess?

This is a perfect representation of 'what is poetry'. A short, concise and clever poem. It is almost like a little list of 'laws' to remember about poetry, but doesn't make poetry sound pedantic. In fact, I like this so much I will print it out and stick it in my notebook... that is, if you don't mind of course ;-)

A big well done from me.

Nathan.

Hi Julie, you may want to consider posting this question on the forums, there are many writers on here that would be happy to explain, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to answer correctly, in fact I would be interested to know myself, all the best,:~}
